Keeping Those Memories Safe

Do you think there is a market for professional scrapbooking?

I’m toying with the idea of scrapbooking for other people. Either – premade albums, or custom albums from start to finish (including organizing their photos and journaling).
Will people pay for this service? It can be pretty pricey. $125 to $175 for a 7×7 album. Up to $400 for a 12×12.

I have not heard of this service before! Thus could be an interesting idea.

The main thing that I would say here about asking a question like this is to not listen to anyone negative on the idea, UNLESS, they have actually tried what you are suggesting of doing!!!

OK – what should you do next?

* Check out: http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/ to see if you can get a name that fits what you want. Get it locked in for a year or more so you can continue your research.

* Get the book StartUp Nation (can either purchase for borrow from the local library) and read it! This group has a website (http://www.startupnation.com/blog/) as well as a weekly radio show (typically on Sunday) that you should start searching for idea of how to run and advertise your business.

* Also get the book Rich Dad Poor Dad (http://www.richdad.com). You should get a number of ideas of how to set up a company process. Even if you do not actually start a company now, you could still use the ideas in running your own little part time activity to see if it can grow into a company.

* Another very good reference would be the Contact the Nightingale Connate organization in the Chicago area (http://www.nightingale.com). Nightingale Connant is the largest producer of audio/video training program in the world and specializes in areas such as self-help, organization, business, self-esteem and many other topics. You might find that you can tie this into what you are thinking about doing.

OK – there are many for references out there that you will find as you go – Now, how about clients:

Think about who might need the services you are suggesting? It would not just be individuals!!!!

I could very well imagine that a number of Real Estate Brokers of high-end properties (from large homes to full office complexes) would want something like this to show perspective customers.

Professional Organizations (I would suggest checking out the “Encyclopedia of Associations” {should be able to find this in the reference section of any major library or a version of it online}) who might want to catalog their history in this unique way.

Any business in your area might want to have a historical record (you could even call it a hysterical record) of how they came into business and the proud history/tradition that they have in the community.

Historical or Centennial organizations (homes, farms, etc) might like to have a formal display of their proud history.

And the list goes one ….

Thus, my advice (two cents) for what it might be worth to you is to start small and go for it. I could see something really big coming out of this. Imagine getting so good and popular with your idea that even ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show” would invite you on to talk about what you do.
